Ok, I know it’s not winter and right now there are now snowflakes, but I just thought this party was so pretty and sweet and I just had to pass it on to ya’ll!

Today’s post may be a bit out of line with the season, since it’s a Snowflake Ballerina Party, and here in California we’re (almost) in spring. I put together this special party for a friend this past December, and I dont’ think I can wait until December rolls around again to share this with you!

This past November a good friend of mine mentioned she was having trouble getting motivated to plan a party for her (soon to be) 4 year old daughter. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to plan a party, I think she just needed a little inspiration. Of course, all it took was the mention of a “party” and I was in full party planning mode! I suggested several different themes to get my friend thinking, and after a little consulting with the birthday girl, the theme was set… a ballerina party with a winter twist… a Snowflake Ballerina Party!

With the theme set, we then settled on the color scheme… pale pink, ice blue and white. My mind began swirling with visions of snowflakes and ballerinas in a winter wonderland…

Since there are no invitations on the market with both a snowflake, and a ballerina theme, my first step was to create invitations. So off to my scrapbooking table, I gathered paper, glitter and my Cricut and got to work. Below are the final invitations.

With the invitations complete, I began to dream about how I could create a magical centerpiece for the room that would really set the mood. I envisioned ribbon and snowflakes and ballerinas all hanging from the heavens (or at least from the ceiling). I enlisted my hubby to make me a lightweight wooden frame, that I would then be able to hang to the ceiling with Command Adhesive hooks. The night before the party I spent 2 hours climbing up and down a ladder hanging ribbon, snowflakes and ballerinas onto the frame. In the end, I was so happy with the result. It was just what I had envisioned!

Details- I used a variety of widths and types of ribbon (all from my personal collection- originally from several various stores… I’m a bit of a ribbon addict!). The snowflakes are all ornaments I bought at Dollar Tree. The ballerina silhouettes are made from cardstock that I cut using my Cricut machine.

The party was held (mostly) in the dinning room. This is the way it looked when the guests arrived. Notice the pale pink skirts tied around each chair. These were custom made for the party (by the mother of one of the little guests), and acted both as decorations and favors.

The first party activity was for the girls to decorate snowflake cookies (that I had made ahead of time). I had prepared pale pink, blue and white icing, as well as a pretty selection of sprinkles for the girls to decorate their cookies with. Each girl took home her plate of cookies (minus the one or two they nibbled on while decorating).

I also made some decorated snowflake cookies for the moms to snack on.

After the girls decorated cookies, we sang to the birthday girl, and served cupcakes while presents were opened. The cupcakes were chocolate cake with vanilla cream cheese frosting (recipe HERE) and handmade cupcake toppers. The idea for the toppers came from HERE, and the template I used for the bodice is HERE. The original ideas use tulle or tissue, but I had some light blue snowflake ribbon that I thought would be perfect. They took a ton of time to make, but I think they turned out pretty special. I added a ‘B’ on one for the birthday girl (Bailey).

The grand finale of the party was a private ballet lesson (given by the birthday girl’s regular ballet teacher). The girls really enjoyed this, and they were so adorable to watch!

Here are the birthday girl (on the left) and my daughter (on the right) dancing their hearts out! So sweet!

All in all it was a pretty magical afternoon, and hopefully created some very special memories for little Miss Bailey.

A Lemon and Pink Party

Hot Dog! We had a party and you’re all invited!

We celebrated with Minnie, but all these ideas could easily be changed to fit any theme. I fell in love with the red polka dots and minnie ears and used them on everything.

Including the cake!

These party hats aren’t just fun to make, they’re also easy and inexpensive.

A birthday outfit is a small touch that can make anyone feel extra special. Kate cried when it was pried off to go in the wash.

What
party is complete without a pinata? All I needed was a Huggies box, a
roll of crepe paper, tape and glue. No messy paper-mache or waiting
days for it to dry.

Mouse hands were made for the kids to wear while hitting the pinata.
Such Joy!
Of course we needed goodie bags for all the loot.

Kate’s favorite part of the party was dancing to Mickey’s Clubhouse songs with a floor covered in balloons.

My daughter Carly just turned 12. Carly is a Crazy and Fun Loving Girl and we love her to pieces, I just can’t believe how much she has grown! Carly wanted to have a Movie Night with her friends so it was off to Gran and Papa’s house who have the BIG THEATER room. It was fun creating all the decorations for this Movie Theme party. Carly and her friends had a blast. Enjoy the Show!

Trains, Airplanes & Pancakes

My son’s 3rd birthday party was a huge success – all of the details came together beautifully and we had a great time.

You may remember that he wanted a pancake party…and a train party…and a fire truck party….and an airplane party…and ..and…and! I ended up going with a transportation theme and I think it turned out pretty darn good!

Station 1: Make a fruit loop necklace. This worked great as it gave the kids something to do right when they got to the house…and the fruit loops doubled as a snack until breakfast was served.

Station 2: Make a door “hangar”. These were foam door hangars and stickers from the dollar store – super easy and a big hit. I think when it was all said and done Ryan made 3 of them and still asks to make one from time to time.

The train cake made with the train pan from Williams-Sonoma. The first time I used the pan, every.single.car.stuck to the pan. I was in tears and felt hopeless! I called my friend that I borrowed the pan from to see what I did wrong and she gave me a few suggestions (umm – can you say “Pam baking spray”? Best.stuff.ever.seriously!). The next one turned out perfect. Thank goodness my mom was there to help me decorate it – being almost 7 months pregnant and getting ready for a birthday party can be exhausting (and emotional!)

Station 3: Stick the butter on the pancake – like pin the tail on the donkey. The kids had fun! I had Staples print this on their big plotter. I ended up doing black and white because they wanted $32 for the color version (the black and white version was $2). I printed “butters” out on my HP photojet.

I have to admit that although I stressed in the very beginning about how this was all going to come together, it worked out perfectly. The kids had fun…the stations were a hit…and it was probably one of the easiest parties I’ve hosted!

I spent the week before making pancakes: blueberry, buttermilk, and chocolate chip. I also had train-shaped pancake molds from Williams Sonoma that I used for some of the buttermilk pancakes. Everything was flash frozen and put in the freezer until 30 minutes before the party. I placed them all on cookie sheets for about 20 minutes at 250 and they were ready to go. I also cooked the sausages and muffins the day before and popped the sausages in the oven as well. After 30 minutes of partying, the food was set out and we were ready to eat. I didn’t remember to take any pics of the pancakes or the food but here’s the kitchen table all set and ready to go.

Oh I’ve fallen in love with this theme. Such an adorable idea and Wendi pulled it together in a BEAUTIFUL way. Oh and Wendi is a photographer so these pics are gorgeous! They are like TWICE the size on her blog too! So hop on over to take a look!

There are little pigs and big pigs,
pigs with long snouts and pigs with short snouts,
pigs with ears that stand up and pigs with ears that flop down.
But all pigs are beautiful.

The invitations, which you have seen before but I am posting them here just for good measure:

My husband and I made the banner…yes he has learned to help with this type of stuff.

I had everyone sign a copy of “If You Give a Pig a Party” for Audrey. The pig on this table is a new version of the piggy she carries around EVERYWHERE. I didn’t realize how gross her pig was until I saw the new one.

The small envelopes had magnets with Audrey’s photo for the adults, and the pigs on the right were for the under 2 crowd.

The over 2 crowd got a white piggy bank to take home and decorate.

This is the verse written above. It is from the book “All Pigs are Beautiful”. We found it by accident, but that verse couldn’t have been more perfect for my little Pig’s party.

I got these vintage cupcake picks from a seller on Etsy. They were the inspiration for the color palette of the party. Once I got them I realized they were much too small for a regular cupcake so I had to improvise and luckily a friend at a party a couple weeks pointed me in the direction of the perfect tiny cupcakes.

Does it get any better than pigs in ballgowns atop mini cupcakes? I don’t think so!

My Mom made Audrey’s party dress. I wish I would have taken a photo of her standing in it. I may force her to put it back on just for a photo.

This is the only photo of her during the party. This is what happens when you ask your husband to take a photo of her blowing out her candles and you forget to adjust the setting on the camera before handing it to him. Bad mommy!

When I started planning this party I knew a couple of things…it would be pigs, pink, super girly and all about Audrey. And that is exactly what it was. We served pigs in a blanket because uh, it was a pig party. Angel and I also made a pig pinata, but I didn’t get any decent pictures of it before it was busted in half. I recommend you don’t make your own pinata…something about your hard work getting beat to a pulp with a stick is a bit heartbreaking.

Because I know you are thinking it…I know she won’t remember her first birthday party, and most of the details went unnoticed by the people that attended. But I know the love that went into those details and the planning and it was important for me to do that for my daughter. So while she may not remember it, I most certainly will.

This 1st birthday luncheon is one of those totally dreamy outdoor luncheons that any girl would want to attend. The colors and treats are sweet and the rose centerpieces are simply fabulous!

A bittersweet birthday is coming up next week…. our little Kate is turning 2!!!

I do not know how two years have flown by so quickly.

I wish time would stop, so she could stay one for a little while longer.

post pictures from her 1st birthday.

We didn’t really have a “theme”… It was a homespun, girly, festive,

pink and lavender luncheon with lots of sweets and glitter.

I am so blessed and thankful for Kate and I am eternally grateful to her

parents for bringing her into our lives.

The morning of the party the birthday girl patiently sat and played with her toys.

I always love a shoe shot… and I loved her glittery pink shoes!!!

The centerpieces were surrounded by mini floral cupcakes, which were given away as favors at the end of the party to the adults.

The kid’s table was set with fun activities and toys.

Fairy wings were hung on each little girl’s chair.

Kate’s monthly baby pictures were displayed so guests could see how she’s changed over the year.

We hand painted each pot with polka dots and glitter.

The cupcake stand was accented with pink ribbon bows and a tulle skirt.

Kate’s Mom made her birthday hat to coordinate with the party.

She loved her cupcake!

And she also loved playing her little cake too!

Her big brother Charie playfully pushed her face into the cake. Thankfully the birthday girl thought it was funny too!

We dressed up her high chair with tulle tutu and ribbon.

The lollipops were placed around the guest tables.

There weren’t any planned activities or games because the guests were so little. Instead we had fairy wings and wands for them to run around with. As well as a little play tent with plastic balls.

Co-Ed Bridal Shower BBQ

My brother is getting married in October and my mom decided to give the happy couple a shower. I of course was totally all over it and asked if I could give her some ideas. She wanted the party to be a casual bar-be-que. So, I came up with a daisy, red gingham and lemon decor’ theme. I had so much fun making the invitations, all of the banners, bride and groom nametags and setting up the table centerpieces and other decor’ around the house.

I got the party favors idea from the hwtm website. Instead of using the jars as drinking glasses we filled them with lemon slice candies and put raffia ribbon around them and a tag with the couple’s names and date of the wedding. So cute! And the party was a huge success.
